Film maker Darren Aronofsky and composer Clint Mansell have teamed up on three incredible movie projects thus far (two of which has included Kronos Quartet). There is something special about an ongoing director/ composer relationship that really helps identify their bodies of work as a whole.

This is also present in most of David Lynch's work as well as he's usually allowing Angelo Badalamenti free reign over his sonic landscapes (not just with scoring but also in the realm of sound design and incidental ambient textures to really add a crazy aural component to his already schizophrenic work.) Here's a link for a great interview with Angelo describing there method when working togetner.
