Moving Image Source has been running a feature by Matt Zoller Seitz about director Wes Anderson's stylistic influences. So far three of the five video essays have been posted and each has been eye-opening and entertaining. I wanted to highlight the second part because of how much attention is paid to Wes Anderson's use of music in film and where he gathered some of that influence from (Martin Scorcese, Mike Nichols, and Richard Lester). There's a lot of focus put on how editing can act as a complement or counterpoint to the accompanying music. I definitely learned a lot watching this. The video isn't embeddable, so go check it out and click the video box on the right side of the page: The Substance of Style, Pt 2. I highly recommend checking out the first and third video essays as well and keep checking back for the final two parts.
