The Roots on Late Night

'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon' debuted on NBC last night and it's interesting to see the new direction 'Late Night' is all ready taking after Conan's departure. The true triumph of the episode was The Roots debut as the 'Late Night' house band. It's great that hip-hop will now have a regular home on network television.

The Roots' musical-ADD and stylistic mastery really got a chance to shine, providing a soundtrack to the entire show, playing everything from hard-edged hip-hop to slow jam R&B to the Bee Gees. The video above is The Roots "slow-jamming the news", definitely my favorite bit of the night.
